Friday, August 3, 2012 - 08:23

Many people may not know it, but today is a holiday. It's the New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax Holiday.

It started today at midnight and lasts through Sunday at midnight.

This means the state is getting rid of sales tax on school supplies.

There are a few rules as to what you can get tax-free though, clothes and shoes have to cost less than $100, laptops and computers need to be less than $1,000 and general school supplies can't cost more than $30 dollars per item.

Dozens of items from shoes to computers to book-bags will cost you a little less this weekend.

School supplies will be tax free here in El Paso August 17-19
