Christmas is just over a week away, and as the holiday draws closer, border-crossing traffic will be growing.
To help the make the process faster, they will introduce new document-reading kiosks now in use at all Paso Del Norte pedestrian lanes.
Officials say that it's best to anticipate the trip across the border to take longer.
"We see a big increase in the amount of traffic so we're encouraging people to take proactive steps to address that increase in traffic," said Roger Maier, CBP. "We are telling people to be prepared for the extra inspections, build a little extra time into their trip have their documents ready and if they've acquired anything in mexico to be prepared to declare that to the cbp officer upon arrival."
Failing to declare food items like fruits and vegetables can result in a fine of a couple hundred dollars.
