A newly-certified police canine drug-sniffing team made its first bust Friday evening, according to El Paso Police.

Investigators said an officer and his K-9 partner, Django, spotted a man driving erratically on the 3200 block of Gateway West, near Five Points, around 8 p.m.

Police said the driver, 32-year-old Jesus Garcia, hit the curb several times. Investigators said when the officer stopped Garcia, Django sniffed the vehicle and alerted the policeman to the presence of drugs.

The officer found a small plastic Easter egg with 0.29 ounces of marijuana inside the vehicle, police said.

Garcia was booked into the El Paso County jail on a charge of DWI (2nd offense) and Possession of Marijuana. His bonds totaled $1,600.
