New Community Center in Socorro

SOCORRO - Students in Socorro will soon have access to more computers and study rooms this summer.

City leaders have unveiled a plan to open a new community center in Socorro. It will be housed in an old fire station building, on North Moon.

The $800,000 investment will include meeting rooms, high-tech games and computer areas.

"My goal is for this to be here for years to come...for the benefit...of the children and the people of Socorro, and also to take away the kids from the streets because basically they get in trouble because they have nothing to do," said City Representative Gloria Rodriguez.

The center is scheduled to open in May.
