CANUTILLO, TX (KDBC) — Frequent visits to campuses and a long list of meetings with key District personnel and other community stakeholders was part of the new Canutillo Independent School District plan. His first visit to schools occured Wednesday morning, where kindergarteners and first graders had an opportunity to meet him.
Dr. Pedro Galavíz planned a two-week transitional plan aimed at helping him move into his new role as the superintendent of the Canutillo Independent School District, officials said.
Dr. Galavíz' official start date is June 3. His plan will kick off with a two-day visit to the district this week.
“I could not be more excited about getting to work on behalf of the children and community of Canutillo,” said Dr. Galavíz, currently the director of secondary schools for the Round Rock Independent School District near Austin. “My plan is to transition into the role in such a manner that both the staff and I can acclimate to one another and come up with better ways of doing our respective jobs.”
Administrators, principals and community stakeholders will meet one-on-one with Dr. Galavíz next week. He then will meet with key business people, elected officials and other dignitaries in anticipation of his start date.
Officials said Dr. Galavíz’s transitional plan is meant to give him a systematic entry into Canutillo that will allow him to learn more about the community, its schools, customs and needs.
“I want to be part of Canutillo with all my heart, and that will take the help of everyone in this great District,” he said. “By meeting as many people as I can ahead of my start date, I will be able to really learn what it takes to be from Canutillo.”
