EL PASO, TX — Business owners in downtown El Paso want to attract more customers. They want downtown to turn into a vibrant place where people can go to enjoy restaurants and shopping.
Two new shops have recently added customer traffic at the San Carlos Building on Texas and Campbell.
Arlette Morales opened her own jewelry store three months ago.
"I know that downtown El Paso is growing. I know there are a lot things sprouting and I think it's a great place to start in terms of art," said Morales.
And the best part, her jewelry is all hand-made.
Just next door - sits Red Door, a unique vintage shop that's been open since February.
"With them revitalizing everything, it's nice to have other boutiques as well to kinda boost the morale and shopping experience downtown," said co-owner Sunshine Holguin.
The store also sells artwork, all created by local artists.
The manager of the San Carlos Building said he's looking for more businesses to fill empty space and boost traffic in the area.
"Our main goal is to kinda focus on bring complementary businesses to downtown and we're kinda hoping to attract foot traffic here," said manager Anthony Flores.
Just a few blocks away, across the street from San Jacinto Plaza, Le Trendy has been doing business for a couple of years.
"I know there's some empty buildings, but we need to make it grow and people from El Paso need to support downtown," said co-owner Abel Gonzalez.
"It's gonna take time but we know we can do it so we're feeling good here. Come to downtown. Don't be afraid. There's a lot of good places to eat and shop," said co-owner Linet Vela.
