Former South African President Nelson Mandela's condition continues to improve and he had a restful day Sunday, the country's presidential office said.
Over the weekend, Mandela was being treated for pneumonia, a government spokesman said Saturday.
Doctors withdrew excess fluid that had accumulated in the space surrounding his lungs as a result of an infection, said Mac Maharaj, a spokesman for President Jacob Zuma.
Mandela, 94, was readmitted last week to an unidentified hospital for treatment for a recurring lung infection.
