LOWER VALLEY- It started simply enough. Police got to 1704 Cecilia around midnight, for what they told us started as an average domestic dispute.
It turned into something much more dangerous, after they were met by an angry man, brandishing a gun.
"Rounds were fired at our police officers and then El Paso Police Officers returned fire. As a result of that, a 19 year-old individual was struck," said Darrel Petry, spokesman for the El Paso PD.
The cops were unhurt and the suspect was taken to a hospital. He's on the mend after being hit in the chest.
Police have made 30 calls to the house on Cecilia since early 2009. We stayed on scene until the sun came up. That's when we met Sergio Rodriguez.
"I know that this house is gang related. The guy that lives there is part of a gang," says Sergio.
He would know. His mother Reynalda lives in the same house where police say the shooter lives.
She's best friends with the suspect's mother, and is staying there temporarily.
Neighbors we talked to say the neighborhood is usually quiet, except for the house on Cecilia. One woman called it a nuisance. Sergio calls the shooting inevitable.
"No, I'm not surprised. Because this stuff has been happening before and I kind of knew this was going to happen because they're always causing a lot of fights, they're always bringing a lot of attention to themselves."
While the shooter faces attempted capital murder charges, Sergio's worried about his mom.
"Because I don't want her to get hurt. There's been other incidents where this has happened, where I got scared because people go over there, people shoot at the house, and I'm afraid my mom is going to get shot one of these days."
He hopes it's soon. Because if what Sergio says is true, another firefight could be just around the corner.
