EL PASO — Organizers for this year's annual pilgrimage to the top of Mt. Cristo Rey will be asking for attendees to donate $1 to help offset the cost of security and medical services being provided by the City of Sunland Park. In the past, these services had been provided at no cost to the event but due to the financial troubles of Sunland Park, they have found it necessary to charge for these services.
The pilgrimage, set for Sunday Oct. 28 will begin at 10 am. The gates will open at 6 am and will close at 2 pm. The public is invited to attend and encouraged to stay for the mass at noon. Those attending are encouraged to arrive early as large crowds are expected.
There will also be no charge for parking for the event but the Insights Science Center which owns the lower parking lots will be taking donations as well.
