More than half of all counties in New Mexico are now experiencing severe or extreme drought conditions.

A federal drought map released Thursday shows a notable difference from three months ago, when about a third of the state was seeing severe conditions.

The National Weather Service is also reporting that Albuquerque hasn't seen snow or rain in almost 40 days, the longest winter dry spell in nearly a century.

Dona Ana County is faring better than much of the state. Drought conditions here are low to moderate.
