Algeria — The Norwegian company that owns part of the oil field attacked by militants Wednesday in Algeria briefed the media on the latest developments. Statoil officials told reporters that they were monitoring the situation closely and cooperating with international efforts to rescue the kidnapped workers. The company says the primary responsibility for rescuing the workers being held hostage lies with the Algerian military. On Wednesday, militants stormed the oil field in the middle of the desert taking as many as forty one foreigners hostage. It's reported that as many as seven Americans were among them.
