The government shutdown is keeping the Marine Corps from taking part in its own Christmas toy drive.

Last year the Marine Corps worked with various groups to collect nearly 36,600 gifts for more than 9,900 children in seven upstate counties in South Carolina, but because of the government shutdown, the Marine Corps cannot take part in community outreach programs or make any exceptions for Toys For Tots.
