A trend is emerging in drug seizures at the border.
The Border Patrol seized 88,000 pounds of pot in 2008, just under 80,000 pounds in 2009, and 75,000 pounds this fiscal year.
The Border Patrol credits the drop to added personnel and improved intelligence.
The agency is also focusing efforts on preventing groups from smuggling drugs across the border.
"One of our main objectives is to deter and to classify these different types of groups out on the south side," said Border Patrol Supervisor Valeria Morales.
More boots are on the ground than ever before. And cameras at the border, as well as the fence, are additional obstacles that weren't there before.
Border Patrol also says fewer people are crossing the river because word is spreading of dangerous currents.
