El Paso Police say 22-year-old Fabian Sebastian Romero was taken to Del Sol Medical Center with serious injuries after police say he was shot in the upper torso early Friday morning.

A dispatch supervisor with the El Paso Police Department confirmed that Police and Emergency Crews transported the victim to the hospital shortly after 10:12 a.m. Friday morning.

Police spokesman Chris Mears confirmed that the shooting, but said that the community should not fear their safety. It is unclear whether the man was shot at the location on Lakewood or if he drove there from the location where he was shot.

Investigators at the scene located evidence that suggests that Romero's gun shot may have been self-inflicted. Investigators have not been able to confirm this, because he is still under medical care. They were also not able to determine if the wound was intentional or accidental.

Police will continue to investigate the case.
