A man tried to impersonate a police officer while burglarizing a home, according to El Paso County Sheriff's deputies.

Deputies arrested Jared Warner, 25, for posing as a police officer when a homeowner spotted him allegedly stealing.

Warner went to a home on the 19000 block of Alameda Ave., wearing a ski mask and a tan kevlar vest, according to a news release.

Warner then allegedly took $2,000 from the victim's purse, according to deputies.

When the woman spotted Warner, deputies report he yelled "Police!", told the woman the home was surrounded, and displayed what appeared to be a star badge.

Warner allegedly ordered the woman to the ground and fled, but was found a short time later in Tornillo, said deputies.

He is currently being held in the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $40,000 bond.
