The El Paso Police Department's Special Traffic Investigations unit was called to a non-fatal, single vehicle crash in Northeast El Paso on Thursday morning that left one man seriously injured.

EPPD says that Jaime Aguilar, 63, was struck by his own 1988 Dodge Ram van in the parking lot of the Hawaiian Royale Hotel Parking lot located at 8735 Dyer around 10:09 a.m. Thursday morning.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the van was hit and Aguilar was dragged several feet when the van struck a wall of a hotel room. Aguilar sustained serious head injuries in the crash and was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Investigators are still working to determine how Aguilar was struck by his own van.
