El Paso, TX (KDBC) — El Paso police say one man was critically injured after he crashed his car into a police patrol car.
The accident happened at 11:30 p.m. Friday near Gateway East and Lomaland in East El Paso.
The officer was conducting a traffic stop when he noticed a Mustang heading in his direction and wasn't slowing down. He got out of the way and that's when the driver of the Mustang car slammed into the back of the patrol unit which caused the patrol car to slam into the Jetta, the car that was pulled over as part of the traffic stop.
The officer went to check on the other driver of the Mustang and found that he was unconscious.
Mike Baranyay with the El Paso Police Department says, "At this point, what exactly cause his injuries, whether is was striking the windshield, striking the steering column is still under investigation."
Police say the driver of the Mustang was not wearing a seatbelt.
The officer and driver of the Jetta were not injured.
