Newtown, CT — A Virginia man was arrested after police said he stole two signs from playgrounds, including one in Connecticut, that honor the memory of Newtown shooting victims.
A sign at the entrance of a new playground for Sandy Hook victim Grace McDonnell was stolen in Mystic on May 6.
Andrew David Truelove, 28, was arrested in Herndon, VA, where police seized two signs from the room he was renting. One of the signs was for McDonnell's playground and the other was for 7-year-old Chase Kowalski, whose playground is located in New Jersey.
After the sign was taken, police said someone called the McDonnell family and claimed to have taken the sign because the Newtown shooting was a hoax. Police have not said if Truelove made those allegations.
