El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a 23-year-old man for possession of narcotics after he appeared nervous during a routing traffic stop.

EPCSO pulled over Ismael Valdez, 23, about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday evening on I-10 east near the Horizon exit for a minor traffic violation. During the interview with the deputy, Valdez claimed not to have any ID and allegedly appeared nervous to the deputy conducting the traffic stop.

A K-9 was called to the scene and alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics in Valdez' blue Chevrolet Avalanche. During the search, two grams of cocaine and less than two ounces of marijuana were discovered along with a loaded handgun within reach of the driver's seat.

A search of Valdez' criminal record reveals that he has two prior convictions for possession of marijuana and is currently awaiting trial for a previous possession of cocaine charge. He was also sentenced in October 2013 to a suspended sentence of a  year in jail for unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Valdez was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana. His bonds totaled $13,000.
