Man Accused in Double Homicide Found Competent to Stand Trial

EL PASO — A jury unanimously found a man accused of killing two women mentally competent to stand trial.

Christian Alberto Martinez will go on trial for capital murder. Four psychiatrists found Martinez mentally competent, and one found he was mildly mentally retarded.

Martinez sat in court looking down at his hands and avoided makng eye contact with anyone. His lawyers had to remind him to stand when the judge and jury entered the court room.

The court will decide next Tuesday when the trial will begin. Martinez is accused of stabbing and killing Jovana Flores, and her mother, Amalia.
