Local unemployment rate sees uptick despite state decline

New labor market information was released Friday, showing an increase in the El Paso's unemployment rate.

The local rate went from 8.5 to 8.9 percent, which is one point lower than one year ago.

El Paso did gain 100 jobs, but still have 27,000 people without work. The annual job growth was recorded at 1.2 percent with an annual jon growth of 3,500 jobs.

The unemployment rate in Texas took a dip from 6.2 to 6.1, which was much lower than the 7 point 4 that it was last year.

Unemployment in the United States remained steady at 7.8 percent. One year ago, the rate was at 8.5 percent.
