It's the story of hundreds of people across the border, Mexican Nationals cross into the U.S. Illegally to try and make better lives for themselves.
Local 4 News spoke with a local independent filmmaker and Grammy-nominated recording artist who are using their talents to bring awareness to the violence in Juarez.
"It's about a man who flees Mexico. He is a victim of a home invasion, he comes into the United States, tries to escape his past and encounters all the challenges that are present to any kind of illegal immigrant trying to assimilate into the country," Velasquez said.
Christopher Velasquez wrote "The Crossing of Tomas" to give the entire country a peek at the life of a Mexican National crossing the border to make a better life for himself.
"I think it's a good idea to have people from the border connecting the national talent and then bringing a film that's organic actually shot in Juarez, shot in the U.S. I think that's a really interesting package that people can gravitate towards," Velasquez said.
Velasquez says films like his can help educate our nation on the truth about the violence in Juarez and how this effects both sides of the border.
Helping him is B. Taylor, an R&B hip-hop artist who is trying to spread the word.
"If I can use my voice to attach to the people that I'm connected with inside of the entertainment and sports world, the more we put emphasis on this the bigger it's going to be for Chris and his movie to bring awareness for El Paso," Taylor said.
Taylor says no matter what your race is, it's about helping those who need it most.
"I'm African American and we've been there so you really just need to come together and really need to know that there are people that are hurting in the Latino community," Taylor said.
He says his songs are uplifting and it's projects like these that can help make big changes.
"Going around and making great music and motivating everything because there is a lot going on in the world. We just need everybody to come together and put as much positivity as we can in the world," Taylor said.
