On Saturday, the community in El Paso got a chance to see just how they've been able to help a local BMX track rebuild, after vandals caused some $35,000 worth of damage to the facility last May.

Dozens of young BMX riders took to the track as part of a fundraising "Ride-A-Thon" at Desert Downs in northeast El Paso.

The track operator says the repairs they've made so far have all been thanks to help of local volunteers.

"The community has come forward quite a bit and that was why we wanted to put it out there in the community, so that they could come out here and today and see what we've done with the money we've gotten from them. To see the repairs we've made and managed to get done, to see that the kids are coming out here," said Keli Watts.

Watts says more work still needs to be done and they're still accepting donations.

BMX racing season at Desert Downs starts February 1st and she's hopeful the track will be ready by then.
