Lightning Sparks Another Fire in the Gila National Forest

Monday, August 13, 2012 - 20:11

A new fire is burning in the Gila National Forest. The Tierra Blanca Fire started late Sunday on the east side of the Mimbres mountains north of Silver City, New Mexico. As of Monday afternoon, the lightning sparked fire was only about 15 to 20 acres in size, but the Forest Service is being inundated with calls. That's because the fire is very visible. It can be seen along Interstate 25 all the way from Hatch to Hillsboro. No homes are being threatened. There have been 46 lightning ignited fires in the Gila National Forest since early July.
