El Paso, TX (KDBC) — The Texas Legislature passed SB 1360, which aims to protect witnesses in family violence cases by applying greater sanctions against those who threaten them.
The bill was authored by Sen. José Rodríguez in the Senate and sponsored in the House by Rep. Abel Herrero.
Under the provisions of the bill, the punishment for tampering with a witness would be enhanced to a second-degree felony from a third-degree felony or the most serious offense charged in the criminal case IF the proceeding involves family violence or the defendant has previously been convicted of an offense involving family violence.
