Latinas are delaying and avoiding doctors at all costs. It's costing them their health and even their lives.
Doctors and researchers for the Journal of Ethnicity and Disease say it is a cultural difference.

Many times insured Latinas may not understand the system. Others have said they don't want to know if they are sick. Other women sacrifice their health for the sake of their families when money is tight.

Dr. Andres Enriquez says that there are many reasons why Latinas are avoiding the doctor's office.

"Women will put their kids, their husband, their mom, their grandmother, they'll put the entire family before themselves and then at the end they might go see the doctor," Dr. Enriquez said.

We spoke to Latinas who have learned the hard way and are now suffering with bigger health problems than if they would have just gone to the doctor right when the symptoms began.
