LAS CRUCES – A father in Las Cruces in facing child abuse charges after police say he was riding his bike through traffic on Mesquite Street with his 2-year-old daughter in one hand.
Investigators say an officer spotted 21-year-old Peter Leon Rodriguez “haphazardly” carrying the child, who was wrapped in a blanket, under one arm while trying to steer the bicycle through lanes of traffic with his other hand.
Police say he was having trouble keeping the bike balanced.
Rodriguez is charged with negligent child abuse.
