Landscaping improvements to be made on UTEP campus

Saturday, March 16, 2013 - 7:44pm

The UTEP campus is getting some cosmetic improvements. Prep work began today to beautify Wiggins Plaza. They'll plant some trees and place new stone pathways.

Contractors will fence off the area, including the street in front of the library. The Health Sciences and Nursing buildings will close temporarily in mid-April. The project will take about 2 months to complete.

Students at UTEP are looking forward to a greener campus.

"We're in class all day and it's not the funnest thing to do so walking around in between classes and having nice scenery is always better," said Maya Telles.

In all, more than 200 new trees will take route on campus. Some of those will replace trees that died or were severely damaged in the February 2011 freeze.
