One of the nation's most popular tourist destinations, the Statue of Liberty, is back open today (Thursday).
Storm surge from Hurricane Sandy covered three-quarters of the Liberty Island and all of Ellis Island when it hit nine months ago.
The Statue of Liberty had just reopened following a year of renovations the day before Hurricane Sandy struck. Monument officials say the storm did not damage historical areas, but surrounding docks and pathways were impacted.
