Johnson & Johnson Recalls Leaky Insulin Cartridges

Tuesday, March 8, 2011 - 3:56pm

Johnson & Johnson has recalled over 350,000 potentially leaky insulin pump cartridges that could lead to serious health problems and death.

J&J's Animas unit, which makes the recalled cartridges that are used by diabetics, said that it found some of the products can leak. The problem is, that can result in the delivery of less insulin.

Insufficient insulin can cause high blood sugar and a serious condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis, which can be fatal.

There have been two reports of adverse events experienced by patients, but neither involved hospitalization or death.
