NEAR VADO, NM — Inmates from the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility stopped to help a victim who had a heart attack while driving on I-10 near Vado, New Mexico.
The inmate work crew was traveling in a van on Robert Larson Blvd. in Las Cruces when a truck traveling on I-10 East suddenly veered off the road, and almost hit the van, then drove through a barbed wire fence.
The corrections officer, along with the inmates, got out of the van to help the driver of the pickup truck, who reportedly suffered a heart attack while driving.
One of the inmates, along with another person who stopped to help, performed CPR on the victim who had stopped breathing.|
Once paramedics arrived, the inmates also helped to carry the victim to the ambulance. The victim was rushed to the hospital. His condition is unknown.
