West El Paso — Interstate 10 reopened in just a matter of hours after police say a woman was fatally struck by a truck. Police say a white woman in her early 30's was hit by a Ford F150 in the far right lane of I-10 W just after 7:15 PM on Monday. They say the truck driver was the only vehicle involved in this fatal accident.
They add the driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating with authorities. The El Paso Police Department's Spokesperson says they are still piecing the evidence together, "It's possible she was trying to cross the freeway from South of Schuster we're still trying to determine that. In the slow lane or the far right lane. She was struck by a Ford F150 that was traveling West Bound on the interstate. Tragically the female pedestrian died at the scene," Chris Mears of EPPD says.
Mears also told Newschannel 9 that they still have to run toxicology tests on the deceased woman to determine if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He also says they do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be a factor for the driver.
The deceased woman's identity has not been released.
