EL PASO — Friends, family and fans had a chance to honor and remember Sherman Hemsley at Fort Bliss national cemetery.

Hemsley left high school in South Philadelphia to serve in the United States air force for four years. He toured in Korea and Japan.

Wednesday, an American flag was draped on his casket honoring his service to the country and his love for El Paso.

Family conflicts had originally prevented his funeral and burial here in El Paso but finally, courts decided to award his manager and long-time companion Flora Enchinton full custody of his estate and his will.

"He's at peace, he's where he should be resting," she said. "That's just who Sherman was, respected and loved everyone and everybody loved him back."

Enchinton says Hemsley is finally resting where he always wanted to here in El Paso.
