EL PASO - Investigators say they know very little about the case, but they do know the burned car is a Ford, possibly a Taurus or a Tempo and it had Texas plates.
Sheriff's department spokesman Jesse Tovar said he has no reason to believe the fire has anything to do with the drug cartels just across the border, even though neighbors we talked to in the area strongly dispute that.
"They have concerns whether their homes are in danger or there is cartel activity in their neighborhood and we can confirm and assure the community that right now we have no indication or nothing to suggest to be so," Tovar said.
Neighbors whose back yards face the field where the car was found were too afraid to talk to us on camera.
They said they're almost certain this was no accident and that a cartel was behind this.
The body was in the driver's seat of the car and that the numbers on the vehicle have yet to be processed.
