Happening Monday: Burn Ban, Ballpark Parking and 'No More' Rally

Monday, April 21, 2014 - 11:39am

County Commissioners are considering extending a burn ban which impacts El Paso County. The ban prohibit outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county for an additional 90 days. Commissioners have cited extreme wildfire threat due to the ongoing drought. The ban was first issued on April 18, 2011 and has been extended ever since.

Commissioners are also considering extending their parking garage hours on Overland to accommodate the possible extra need for parking spaces during the first two weeks of Chihuahuas baseball games. Officials will have to approve up to $1,000 of overtime pay to staff the parking garage. Standard parking rates at the Overland garage are $5 a day and the garage is about a 10 minute walk from the Southwest University Park.

A 'No More' Rally will also take place Monday in front of the County Courthouse at noon. The Center Against Family Violence is hosting the event to commemorate Sexual Assault Assault Awareness Month. El Paso District Attorney Jaime Esparza is scheduled to speak.

I will have all three stories tonight on NewsChannel 9 at 5 and 6 pm, and Local 4 News at 5:30.
