Hang glider brings unique performance to Amigo Airsho

It's not a fast moving jet, but Dan Buchanan captivated audiences just as much with hang gliding performance at the Amigo Airsho Sunday afternoon.

Buchanan lost the use of his legs after a hang gliding accident in stormy weather, but that has not prevented him from performing and doing what he enjoys most.

"Never, I never considered not doing anything," Buchanan said. "I couldn't imagine that."

Not being able to run off a mountain, as is typically done when hang gliding, Buchanan rigged a trailer where he mounts his slightly modified glider.

"All I did was put two wheels on to land since I can't walk and a leather skid plate on my flying harness," Buchanan said.

Buchanan prepped for his performance by getting in his harness and strapping himself onto his glider with help from his crew chief.

The trailer is then hooked up to a truck which speeds up to at least 35 miles per hour down the runway before Buchanan is launched hundreds of feet in the air.

"It was pretty amazing to watch him do his thing," said Kevin Brisco, a pilot himself. "It made my day."
