HAMPTON, VIRGINIA— People generally hack websites, but now, it seems a portable electronic road sign was hacked, warning people to beware of zombies.
Motorists in Hampton, Virginia, were being cautioned to look out for zombies earlier this week. A Hampton City inspector noticed the message Tuesday morning and repositioned the sign so it was out of view from motorists.
The Hampton Roads Sanitation District said the signs are password protected but someone managed to change the message Monday, making the sign flash “CAUTION, ZOMBIES AHEAD.”
The contractor has now changed the password, and has also installed locks to prevent access to the sign controls in the future. The sign now cautions motorists of pipeline construction scheduled for the area.
