Federal health officials are facing a lawsuit by Guatemalans who were subjected to U.S. syphilis experiments in the 1940's. The Guatemalans want officials to compensate them for health problems they have suffered.

The lawsuit comes after it was revealed that U.S. scientists who were studying the effects of penicillin in the 1940's, deliberately infected hundreds of Guatemalan prisoners, mental patients, and others.
None were reportedly informed.

The Guatemalans filed the suit, Monday.

The experiments were hidden until just recently, when a medical historian uncovered the records in 2009.
