Get ready to pay more when you board a plane

If your summer vacation plans involve flying, you'll be spending a little more. Starting July 21, 2014, passenger security fees will increase at U.S. airports.

Right now, that fee is any where from five to 10 dollars, no matter how many planes you take. On July 21, 2014 however, a flat fee of $5.60 will be imposed in each direction, no matter how many planes you board en route and then you may pay even more if you have a very long layover.

This hike will benefit the TSA's security efforts and offset spending in the federal budget. There's no word yet on whether major carriers will help cover this fee.
