EL PASO (KDBC) — Willie Gandara Sr. reached a plea deal Monday in a federal bribery case involving the Access Healthsource scheme.
He's accused of voting in support of the contract while on the Socorro Independent School District board to make Access the health care provider for the district, in exchange for money and kickbacks for his business.
Gandara Sr. faced charges of mail fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. He can face a $250 thousand fine and up to 20 years in prison.
Under the agreement he will plead guilty to wire fraud if they drop the other charges. The judge has not yet signed the plea agreement.
