Gadsden ISD has delayed the start of Desert Pride Academy and Alta Vista Early College High School due to construction that is pending approval of occupancy.
The new Desert Pride Academy facility has not received the required Certificate of Occupancy as of Friday.  Due to the timing of the required building inspections it is anticipated that the Certificate of Occupancy will not be received prior to August 4, 2014, the originally scheduled first day of school for students. GISD will delay the start of school for the Desert Pride Academy students until August 11.  The teaching staff will report to work on July 30th and July 31st for scheduled professional development and then not return to work until August 7th.
The staff will be contacted by DPA administration regarding the delay start. Students will be informed via school messenger and DPA staff.
In addition, the Alta Vista Early College High School (AVECHS) facility also will not be ready for students until August 11, 2014 due to the timing of construction and other facility modifications that are needed for that campus. GISD will delay the start of school for Alta Vista Early College High School students until August 11, 2014.  The teaching staff is scheduled to report to work on July 30th and July 31st for scheduled professional development and then not return to work until August 7th.
The staff will be contacted by AVECHS administration regarding the delay start. Students will be informed via school messenger and AVECHS staff.
