El Paso, TX (KDBC) — A fundraiser is being planned for the owner of a building that was destroyed in a fire last week in Central El Paso. The building caught fire last Friday at around 3:30 in the morning. Fire officials say it's easily the biggest structure fire so far this year. No one was injured in the fire.
Crews today knocked down the building on Raynor and Pershing, which is just down the street from the El Paso Police Department.
The building housed 10 apartments, a bar, and a hair styling academy, and was owned by Pipo Barrigan.
"It's very sad and he's down of course. We have to lift him up with prayer and love and kindness, and that's what we're here for. We're born to love, to give, and to serve," said Rosa Guerrero, a friend who is now organizing a fundraiser.
A fundraising event is being planned for Sunday, June 2nd for Pepi Barrigan. An account has also been set up at GECU at account number 588440.
