Ft. Bliss' Notification System

A new look tonight at that emergency notification system that Fort Bliss says went off without a glitch after Monday's shooting.

The system's been in place for 6 months, but it's only for the higher ranking military officials. So they receive the message and then pass it down along the chain of command.

The message sent out Monday regarding shots fired on post basically said, there is a situation at the mini-mart on Cassidy - stay clear of the area.

Still, Fort Bliss Emergency Manager Mike Lister says there is room for improvement with the system.

"We will be expanding to our counterparts, the leadership of El Paso, El Paso police department, El Paso fire, Office of Emergency Management, Local FBI division, and our other counterparts here within the community."

They also want to implement a system that will alert families off post in case of emergency.

As of right now they claim they have a system to do that but don't know what it's fully capable of.
