EL PASO, TX — Police said 21-year-old Cameron Canada died from a knife attack during a party in East El Paso Sunday morning.
Friends are stunned that their dear friend Cameron, or Cam as they knew him, is gone.
“At first, he looked at me as a friend, but as time went on, our relationship got strong and he grew more to me like a brother," said Mark Kane. "I feel heartbroken. I feel like a piece of my heart was taken from me."
Police said the 21-year-old got into a fight with someone outside a party in east El Paso Sunday morning and 24-year-old Samuel Perez stabbed Canada twice in the chest.
"It was too much blood and we just stood by his side. He lost the shine in his eyes and I know what time it is. We started to pray and I just hoped he wasn't in pain. He didn't look like he was in pain. He wanted to close his eyes and we kept hitting on him telling him you're not gonna die on us tonight," said Janet Jackson.
Emergency crews rushed Canada to the hospital where he died.
"It's shocking I still feel I don't believe it," said Kathy Thomas-Aldrich.
Cameron's friends said he was full of life.
"We used to call him Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He was so funny. He would joke on us and he would laugh about silly things," said Thomas-Aldrich.
"He had a great personality always knew how to make people laugh," said Kishaun Gary.
Cameron's friends said they were at the party celebrating because he was moving to Aaska this Friday to start a new life.
"He was getting ready to move to Alaska to get away from all the chaos here was going through in the El Paso and I was excited for him because I knew he was excited to finally leave El Paso," said Thomas-Aldrich.
According to the arrest affidavit, police overheard conversations with the suspects brother leading them to think Perez admitted he stabbed and killed Canada.
