Tuesday, August 26, 2014 - 1:16pm

The El Paso community is invited to take part in an entirely new, free musical and dance experience that blends the culture of the Land of the Thunder Dragon with traditional Western music at The University of Texas at El Paso.

The free, one-time event at UTEP’s Don Haskins Center will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The performance is recommended for all ages. No tickets are required. For more information, visit bhutan.utep.edu.

UTEP will present an evening that fuses Bhutanese music and dance with Western cultural elements. This program made its world premiere in Thimphu, Bhutan, Oct. 12, 2013, and was the first of its kind ever performed in the tiny Himalayan kingdom nestled between India and China. As part of UTEP’s Centennial Celebration in 2014, Bhutanese dancers and musicians will join world-renowned singers and a chorus and orchestra made up of UTEP students and faculty for the production’s U.S. premiere.
