Free gardening workshops offered at rec center

The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department will host a free instructional workshop on “Gardening 101 (Lesson 1): Keys to Successful Home Gardening in El Paso” from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10. It will take place indoors at the Multipurpose Recreation Center on 9031 Viscount Blvd.

The first workshop will discuss the basics of home gardening in the El Paso region with Denise Rodriguez, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Horticulturist. No previous Gardening experience is necessary to attend and the workshop is suitable for new and experienced gardeners of all ages interested in learning more about home-gardening basics in El Paso.

This free workshop is the first in a four part series titled “Gardening 101.” Future lessons taught by members of the El Paso County Master Gardeners will include the topics listed below:

June 14th 4:00-530pm Gardening 101 (Lesson 2)
Integrated Pest Management:
Common Garden Insects

July 12th 4:00-5:30pm Gardening 101 (Lesson 3)
Plant Propagation

September 13th 4:00-5:30pm Gardening 101 (Lesson 4)
Getting Ready for Fall Gardening

An RSVP is required for each workshop as seating is limited to the first 30 participants. Registration deadline for the first Workshop is Thursday, May 9, 2013 by calling Marci Tuck at (915) 541-4020 or by e-mail at tuckmj@elpasotexas.gov
