A top honor goes to Franklin High School in West El Paso.

The Cougars were recently named one of the best high schools of 2014 by The Daily Beast, a news reporting website.

The nomination was based on six indicators from school surveys that compared public high schools in the U.S. with graduation and college acceptance rates.

Other criteria included college-level courses and exams, as well as SAT and ACT scores.

Franklin ranked 638 out of 700 schools nationally.
