More than 150 Fort Bliss troops returned home Sunday night after a December deployment to Afghanistan.

Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team and 1st Armored Division were reunited with their families during a ceremony at Fort Bliss.

"I saw her and I saw my wife and I just had to run over there and hug them and kiss them," Staff Sgt. said Monse Gardea.

Gardea spotted his daughter and she ran to him as he and the other troops got off the plane and walked in formation

Gardea has deployed four times and both he and his family said it never gets easier.

For those like Halley Brooks who are going through their first deployment, she nervously waited to be reunited with her husband.

"I'm never doing this again," she said. "I swear one was plenty for me. "
After the soldiers entered the building with lights and smoke Brooks combed through the crowd in search of her husband.

When she finally spotted him she ran and jumped into his arms.

"I think the moment when I believed it is when I had him in my arms," Brooks said.

While being away for nine months takes its toll on families, they've learned to cherish the time they have together.

"It's what keeps me going," Gardea said. "Ii's worth fighting for."
