More than 125 Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, returned from Afghanistan Tuesday afternoon.

The 1-36th "Spartans" deployed last December to  join a combined military coalition comprised of more than 62 nations focused on promoting a secure and stable region.

The "Spartans," along with Coalition and Afghan Security Forces, performed several different missions oriented to respond to crises and defeat hostile extremists.  Six soldiers from this battalion were killed in action during this deployment.

The 1-36th Infantry worked under International Security Assistance Forces to assist the Afghan government through mentoring and training as U.S. Forces continue a responsible transfer of security to the Afghan National Security Forces.
