Former EPISD Superintendent to Begin Serving Sentence Immediately

EL PASO — A jury Friday sentenced Lorenzo Garcia, after his guilty plea in June admitting to getting kids out of taking the TAKS test to get federal money and bonuses. He also confessed to getting a contract secured for his girlfriend.

Garcia will face a sentence 3.5 years to begin immediately at La Tuna Federal Prison in Anthony, Texas.

In addition, Garcia will need to pay a $56.5 thousand fine and $180 thousand in restitution.
